MEET THE EXECUTIVES
Hunter Miller
Co-President
Hunter is a third year Honors Finance student at the University of Alberta. He possesses an incredibly deep-rooted passion for youth empowerment and entrepreneurial education, previously serving as a Junior Achievement mentor. Hunter brings valuable organizational prowess and an extensive network of key business connections to his new role. Outside of NXT-GEN, Hunter has an unparalleled interest in the public markets and private venture spaces. He currently works as a Wealth Management Summer Associate at National Bank and was previously a Marketing Analyst at Trust Science, a growth-stage FinTech headquartered out of Edmonton.
Carter Moroz
Co-President
Carter is a fourth year Human Resources Management major at the University of Alberta. Carter brings extensive experience though his experience as our previous VP Academic and through his involvement with other clubs on campus. With a track record of success in our programs, Carter looks forward to building on past achievements through working alongside our NXT-GEN team. Besides NXT-GEN, Carter has expressed interest in the Canadian political system and is currently a Constituency Assistant with the House of Commons.
Bao Nguyen
VP Marketing
Bao is a third-year BSc Specialization in Mathematics and Finance student at the University of Alberta. Bao’s involvement in NXT-GEN dates back to winning second place in its first Business Pitch Competition in May 2021, then becoming a Sponsorships Associate the following September and VP Marketing in June 2022. Last year, his team successfully recruited over 40 students into NXT-GEN’s Student Cohort, a program teaching entrepreneurship and connecting students to valuable industry experts with over $6,000 in prizes across business competitions held. Outside of academics, Bao pursues projects in finance, data science and machine learning that can solve real-world business problems. He is looking forward to seeing NXT-GEN’s pace change in events and what ideas students will pitch this year!
Viktoriya Chervak
VP Events
Viktoriya joined NXT-GEN as VP Events in July 2023. Her role includes organizing the events held throughout the year and ensuring that everything runs smoothly. Along with her team, the events directors, they ensure that all the logistics behind every event is thought through and that all attendees and industry professionals are taken care of. Outside of the club, Viktoriya works as a realtor where she help clients achieve their real estate goals and needs. She enjoys going to the gym, hiking and spending time with friends and family. Looking forward to this year, she is excited for our speaker panel events and eager to see how students will tackle our case competition.
Chase Laforce
VP External
Chase is currently pursuing a Finance major and Marketing minor with a certificate in Real Estate in his fourth year at the University of Alberta. He began in September 2021 as Corporate Relations Director and was elected VP External in May 2022 as he continues this role. He is directly involved with contacting, securing and sustaining a large portion of NXT-GEN’s valuable connections. Chase is most excited to see the organization’s and participating members’ growth throughout his final year at the University of Alberta. Outside of school, Chase spends his time mountain biking and downhill skiing in various places across Canada.
Jack Gatenby
VP Finance
Jack is a co-op accounting student who originally joined NXT-GEN as a Public Relations Associate in February 2022. Jack has since been in the role of VP Finance as of May 2022. Jack is essentially the accountant for NXT-GEN, tracking cash flows and ensuring the financial health of the organization. Outside of NXT-GEN, he recently completed an 8 month work term as a Staff Accountant in Audit at KPMG’s Edmonton office. He was involved in audits for a wide range of clients in various industries. Jack will be returning to KPMG in the winter for another 4 month co-op placement. Beyond work and school, Jack loves to ski, golf, and play slo-pitch. He is most looking forward to seeing participants' growth throughout the year and what great ideas they are able to pitch at NXT-GEN competitions.
Zak Hallworth
VP Academic
Zak joined NXT-GEN In July 2023 and became VP Academic. His role involves coordinating with other executives, the academic portfolio and sponsors to ensure that our event programming is aligned with NXT-GEN’s vision and provides value to attendees. Outside of his time with the club, he has worked one on one with dozens of small businesses through the University of Alberta Student Consulting Group, helping them with marketing, CRM, scheduling, and HR. Additionally, he is the co-owner of a hardscaping contracting company that has successfully completed over 100 projects, mainly performing material take-offs, four to six-figure project estimates, client and project management. Zak is looking forward most to seeing young entrepreneurs cultivate important relationships that empower them into the next stage of their journey.
Owen Clark
VP Internal
Owen has been working with NXT-GEN since the club began in late 2020. Initially, he worked as the Director of Public Relations and helped get the club’s name out into the public with interviews with the Edmonton Journal and CBC. This year, he joins the club as VP Internal. When not with NXT-GEN, Owen works at Edmonton-based fintech startup Trust Science, working with their data and marketing teams. Outside of work and school, he enjoys playing basketball and watching movies. This year he is looking forward to hosting high quality events within the Edmonton student entrepreneurship community and getting everybody, both inside and outside of the club, excited and passionate about the future of entrepreneurship.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Colin Tran
Advisor, Board of Directors
Currently in the Board of Directors, Colin Tran founded NXT-GEN in 2020 and has led the organization’s growth and development since, growing the club’s membership over 3X and sponsorship revenue by 15X in two years. Colin has started and grown several other student-led organizations in leadership roles, has teaching experience at the high school and university levels, and has won numerous awards and competitions relating to entrepreneurship, business strategy, and leadership. His industry experience is highlighted by his current role as VP Corporate Affairs with Trust Science, a locally-headquartered FinTech SaaS company, where he has ably led the marketing team and grant initiatives while also providing People and Culture, Sales, and Executive Strategy support. During his tenure, the company has had a 13X growth in annual run-rate with ARR exceeding $3MM CAD.
