MEET THE EXECUTIVES

Colin Tran
Founder & President
Founding NXT-GEN in 2020, Colin leads the organization’s strategic growth and development. In his third year at the University of Alberta as President, he is launching the NXT-GEN Accelerator Program, the organization’s most ambitious initiative to date. He currently serves as VP Corporate Affairs at Trust Science, a growth-stage FinTech headquartered in Edmonton and is actively involved in the Edmonton startup community. Outside of work and school, Colin is an avid golfer and Oilers fan.

Jack Gatenby
VP Finance
Jack is a Co-op Accounting major in his third year at the University of Alberta. He began his role at NXT-GEN as a Public Relations Associate in January 2022 and was elected VP Finance a few months later. Jack was a crucial part of event logistics running the May 2022 Pitch Competition. He is planning on pursuing a CPA after his degree and is also bilingual. He is extremely excited about the NXT-GEN Accelerator Program and believes that this year's student cohort in the 2023 Pitch Competition will undoubtedly top last year’s event!

Matthew Malo
VP Events
Matthew is a 3rd year Bachelor of Commerce student in the Alberta School of Business. Matthew started with NXT-GEN in January 2020 and was later elected internally to the role of VP Events. His key achievement thus far was planning and executing NXT-GEN's first in-person case competition in May 2022, which will be vital to this year's Accelerator Program events. Beyond school, Matthew works part-time as a Marketing Coordinator at Trust Science and spends his free time with any outdoor activities the time of year allows!

Bao Nguyen
VP Marketing
Bao is in his second year of the Mathematics and Finance Specialization at the University of Alberta. Bao was first involved as a Sponsorships Associate in September 2021, and promoted to VP Marketing in June 2022. He is looking forward to advancing NXT-GEN’s mission and growth through the Accelerator Program. He has been a tutor for over 3 years and is interested in solving real-world problems through business solutions, data science and machine learning. In his free time, Bao is also an avid YouTube enjoyer.

Chase Laforce
VP External
Chase is currently a third year Finance student at the University of Alberta. He began in September 2021 as Corporate Relations Director and was elected VP External in May 2022. He is directly involved with contacting, securing and sustaining a large portion of NXT-GEN’s valuable connections. Chase is most excited to see the organization's and participating members' growth stemming from this year’s Accelerator Program. Outside of school, Chase spends his time mountain biking and downhill skiing in various places across Canada.

Carter Moroz
VP Academic
Carter is a currently pursuing a major in Human Resource Management at the University of Alberta. He participates in a number of student groups, including serving as Creative Director on the Business Student's Association and Vice President Academic at NXT-GEN. Aside from school, Carter works part-time as a Member's Assistant at the Office of Matt Jeneroux, MP and has expressed interest in getting involved the Canadian political system. Carter is both a fan of the Edmonton Oilers and Elks as a lifelong Edmontonian.
